The number of requests for compensation made to Enemalta over damages caused by power outages appears to be on a downward trend, according to figures tabled in Parliament by Energy Minister Miriam Dalli.

The figures, supplied in reply to a parliamentary question by Nationalist Party MP Ryan Callus, show that the corporation received 234 requests for compensation back in 2017. The number went down to 174 in 2018, before increasing slightly in 185.

So far this year, Enemalta has received 149 requests for compensation, suggesting that it is likely that the total number of requests for 2020 will be lower than previous years, particularly since the corporation has generally received the lowest number of requests in December.

A significant power outage occurred last Saturday, affecting numerous Maltese localities, with the fault attributed to damage in the Malta-Siciliy interconnector.
