Decrease in poverty, increase in social expenditure – Muscat

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat stated that although there was a decrease in unemployment, poverty, and social benefits dependence, the social sector expenditure still increased by 50%.

Dr Muscat described that the main social target of the Labour Government is that children living with employed parents do not live in poverty.

Muscat announced that for the first time, besides tackling the current situation, Malta will be following a long-term strategy regarding prices and social housing. Social housing should be there for those citizens who truly need it, concluded Muscat.
