A decision on the MATSEC exams scheduled to take place this spring will be announced by the end of the month, Education Minister Owen Bonnici pledged today.
Bonnici was answering a parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Claudette Buttigieg, who noted that Maltese exams at SEC, intermediate and advanced levels were scheduled to take place in a month’s time. MATSEC has already suspended a number of oral, listening and practical PE examinations in response to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
The minister said that he had asked for feedback on the matter, and was pleased to note that practically all stakeholders did, specifically thanking the National Youth Council and the University Students’ Council for their feedback.
He said that he wanted to make sure that any decision on the matter would not be taken by the government or by the minister responsible, but all those involved.
“These are extraordinary circumstances; we are working tirelessly to ensure that we do not take any unilateral decisions, but only act after listening to a wide swath of stakeholders.”
