Partit Demokratiku (PD) said that the government did not operate in a professionally on the Daphne Caruana Galizia assassination case.
In a press release, PD said that the actions taken by the government’s actions on the assassination case were unprofessional and damaging. The party also said that the government continuous inaction towards corruption allegations that are tarnishing Malta’s reputation will have dire long-term consequences.
The PD is asking the government to take accountability and be politically responsible for what the Council of Europe’s report states in relation to Malta’s respect towards the law.
According to the PD, various international reports on Maltese governance have recommended the same specific reforms. The party said that the country is in need of a judiciary arm and a Police Commissioner that are independent, and is also stressing on a less powerful Office of the Prime Minister.
PD deputy leader Timothy Alden said that Partit Laburista might not have written the laws but is now holding the responsibility to amend them.
