Daphne Murder: Report shows that Minister made fake declarations – Metsola

PN Candidate for the European Parliament Elections Roberta Metsola stated that the European Council report which was published today said that the Minister for Internal Affairs made “fake declarations” regarding the progress of the ongoing investigation about the murder of the journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

Metsola said that 19 months after the murder, the aggressors are still not convicted, even though Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that the process to finalise the case is coming to an end.

According to Metsola, “the European Council Report noted multiple questions regarding the investigation, including the promotion given to the Magistrate who was originally meant to lead the inquiry; and the lack of questioning done to Minister Chris Cardona”.

Borg Knight said that that the report shows that an investigation regarding the Panama Papers should be issued.

“We do not want to have to rely on European institutions due to lack of action from the Maltese Government”, declared Mifsud Bonnici. He added that the way the report describes Malta’s situation of being disrespectful to the law continues to hurt Malta’s reputation.
