Daniel Micallef announced that he will contest the election for the post of Labour deputy leader for party affairs
Micallef is currently the President of the Labour Party and has been occupying this position since 2013.
The Labour deputy leader for party affairs has always been occupied by a non-member of parliament except for Konrad Mizzi and Chris Cardona who has recently resigned from the PL’s Parliamentary group.
On Thursday following a unanimous decision for a change in statute during an Extraordinary General Conference it was decided that the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party (PL) cannot be a member of parliament anymore. Also, the Deputy Leader cannot contest a general election unless having resigned at least two years before.
Daniel Micallef announced that he will submit his nomination on Facebook.
The election will be held on the 18th of July.
