The Civil Society Network is appealing for the dissemination of masks to the general public free of charge and at the same time for the introduction of the obligation to wear masks when in public places, or at least in urban areas.
“A measure such as this should resemble similar ones adopted in other EU states, namely Czechia, where failing wearing a medical mask, the mouth and the nose should be covered by a scarf to provide minimal protection,” said CSN in a statement.
This measure is being proposed after the new state of affairs wherein local transmissions are becoming more prevalent, and thus it is now that the risk of contagion is highest in the streets, shops, etc.
The CSN issued its appeal after Health Minister Chris Fearne announced the first COVID-19 death on Wednesday late in the evening. A 92-year-old woman from Gozo. The woman passed away at the Gozo General Hospital.
In the meantime, on Thursday morning the Ministry for Health announced that a 2nd person has died of COVID-19. A 79-year-old man who contracted the virus on the 6th of April.
