The Court does not approve of horse races taking place in the streets.
In a court hearing in Gozo on the 14th of June, Magistrate Joseph Mifsud said the Court is clearly stating it disapproves of these types of races taking place in feasts and in public roads.
In his sentence, the Magistrate, in a sarcastic tone, insisted that these races are done in the name of saints, while they are definitely not done in Saint Francis’s, patron saint of animals, name.
In the same case, the accused was freed from all accusations brought against him, because there was not enough evidence. The Magistrate said that “no horse was interviewed”.
In Monday’s races, which were being organised for the feast of Saint George in Victoria Gozo, a 72-year-old woman was hit and grievously injured.
