A man is to be jailed for eight months following an admission of an attempt to use a false passport to travel from Malta.

Toni Demaj, a 36-year-old Albanian, was accused of trying to board a flight on 17th August at around 11.30 am with a false Hungarian passport. He was headed to Dublin. His real passport was later found in the pocket of a jacket that was stowed in his luggage.

Demaj’s legal aid lawyer then entered a guilty plea and apologised for on his client’s behalf.  Magistrate Astrid May Grima asked that the Principal Immigration Office deport the accused upon him concluding his jail term.
