The death toll from the coronavirus in Italy has risen to 197 after the largest daily increase in fatalities reported in the country since the outbreak.
The Italian authorities said that 49 had died in 24 hours. More than 4,600 cases have been reported.
Italy has reported the most deaths outside of China, where the virus has emerged back in December.
According to the figures released by the World Health Organisation more than 100,000 people have contracted the virus worldwide which has claimed more than 3,000 lives the majority of which were in China.
