A total of new coronavirus cases were reported by the health authorities on Wednesday. The cases reported today are still under investigation.

The total number of active cases now stands at 1,649 as 49 individuals were declared to have made a recovery.

Mathematician Prof Josef Lauri commented: “This third wave does not seem to be subsiding yet, as can be seen from the epicurve. And the number of active cases keeps increasing, today more than the forecast I gave yesterday. Today’s time series model forecasts 1700 active cases tomorrow. Let’s hope I am wrong again in that it will be less”.

2,823 swab tests were carried out in the past 24 hours. To date, 5,025 coronavirus cases have been recorded in Malta.
