The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry said that although it welcomes the ‘Safer Neighbourhood Scheme’ the country and the construction sector are far from close to the desired destination in terms of improvement in standards of professionality in ascertaining truly safer neighbourhoods for all.

The ‘Safer Neighbourhood Scheme’ was presented by The Malta Developers Association on Friday. A scheme which the Chamber described as a step in the right direction.

The Chamber issued a statement on Saturday where it has also explained that the country and the construction sector are far from close to the desired destination in terms of improvement in standards of professionality in ascertaining truly safer neighbourhoods for all.

The Malta Chamber mentioned how it has been vociferous in the past on the need for the construction and building industry to be held to higher levels of professionality especially in the context of recent tragedies leading to the loss of an innocent life and injuries that could have easily been avoided.

The Malta Chamber’s Building and Construction Committee was recently established with a similar aim to support professional and ethical developments. The Committee also aims to lead responsible and researched policy propositions intended towards driving the much needed upward shift in the building and construction industry.
