Clothing prices down; food prices up

The National Statistics Office (NSO) has announced that food prices for the month of July went up by 0.63%, while clothing and shoe prices went down by 0.2%. In July, the total rate of inflation was that of 1%.

The NSO explained that restaurant and take-away food prices went up the most, by (0.86%,). Clothing prices went down more than those of shoes (-10.78%).

Meanwhile, the Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) said that this inflation will have a negative impact on families with low income and the elderly. They that this increase in food prices occurred within the context of a rise in bread prices and the government’s tampering with electricity and water bills.
