Church authorities and the Malta Union of Teachers have signed the collective agreement which will serve as the general agreement between the two sides until 2022. This agreement will affect all the employees within the Church’s Educational Secretariat and the Church Schools in Malta and Gozo.

During the signing of this agreement, which took place in the Archbishop’s Curia, the following improvements were announced:

  • A better financial package with revised salary scales
  • Allowances and resources
  • Better working conditions
  • More structure and work-related opportunities

A number of points which were introduced in this collective agreement were also agreed upon in the sectoral agreement signed by MUT and the Government.

Fr Charles Mallia from the Secretariat for Catholic Education said that this agreement was reached just in time for the start of the next scholastic year.

MUT President Marco Bonnici said that for the last 30 years MUT and the Church have had a central role in the Maltese educational sphere.
