Chris Cardona who ‘self-suspended’ himself earlier on this week, will return to his ministerial post, Partit Laburista said in a statement.
The announcement was first made through the party media, while an official government statement was made only later.
On Sunday morning, a parliamentary group meeting was convened at the Prime Minister’s summer residence in Girgenti, for which the MPs and MEPs were also in attendance.
The MPs and MEPs were seen driving out of the residence, however none of them gave any comments to the media. In a statement, Partit Laburista said that ‘Chis Cardona will return as Minister and Deputy Leader of the Party’. The announcement was made by Partit Laburista leader and Prime Minister Joseph Muscat at the beginning of the meeting following the latest developments in relation to the investigation into the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
On Saturday evening, Dubai-based 17 Black owner Yorgen Fenech was arraigned in court where he was charged with financing the murder of Caruana Galizia. Fenech pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded in custody.
Unanimous support to the Prime Minister
In its statement, Partit Laburista said that the Labour Parliamentary Group gave its unanimous support to all decisions which the Prime Minister will be taking. The party claimed that this position was taken during the meeting in which all members expressed their opinions freely.
Parliament to discuss the assassination of Caruana Galizia
The Labour Parliamentary Group agreed that this week Parliament should discuss the assassination of Caruana Galizia after Fenech was formally accused of having commissioned the murder.
