The MATSEC Examinations Board has announced changes to the main and first session of oral, listening and Physical Education practical examinations in a statement on Thursday.
The board said that in view of the recent developments concerning the novel coronavirus, Covid-19, it was suspending indefinitely the following examinations in the best interest of the candidates, examiners and examination staff.
On Thursday two more patients tested positive to coronavirus, bringing the total number to nine. Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced that all educational institutions will be closed for a week in a press conference in the afternoon.
The exams which will be impacted by this decision are:
- All SEC, Intermediate and Advanced level language oral examinations scheduled until the 22 April
- All SEC, Intermediate and Advanced level Language Listening Comprehension examinations scheduled until the 17 April
- All SEC and Intermediate level Physical Education Practical Examination scheduled until the 30 March
In the meantime, the board has advised all candidates to continue preparing for the other components of the upcoming examination session.
“The University is in constant communication with Government and Health authorities and will follow all direction given by such authorities in order to minimise the risk of virus transmission and safeguard all individuals concerned,” the statement reads.
The MATSEC Examinations Board will update candidates on any further changes should the current situation related to COVID-19 virus change.
