The Costume Institute Gala – also known as the Met Gala – at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is considered the biggest event on the fashion fundraising calendar.
Celebrities from the worlds of film, music and fashion congregate to raise money for the Met’s Costume Institute and to celebrate the grand opening of its latest exhibition.
This grand event has been chaired by US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour since 1995. This year’s theme framed around Susan Sontag’s seminal 1964 essay Notes on ‘Camp’ and celebrities from all over the globe did not disappoint in their choices of attire.
The Met Gala 2019, which marks the event’s 71st anniversary, was co-chaired by singer/actress Lady Gaga (who wore no less than four different costumes on the red carper), fashion designer Alessandro Michele, singer Harry Styles and professional tennis player/designer Serena Williams.
