The three alleged hitmen in Caruana Galizia’s assassination are set to return in court following a court decree which authorized the gathering of fresh evidence.

Brothers Alfred (il-Fulu) and George (iċ-Ċiniż) Degiorgio along with Vince Muscat (il-Koħħu) stand accused of planting and detonating the car bomb which killed journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in October 2017.

The Criminal Court presided over by Madam Justice Edwina Grima ruled that the gathering of fresh evidence will take place before the Magistrates’ Court presided over by Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit.

This happened after the Court of Appeal sent the records of the case back to the Criminal Court on Wednesday for new witnesses to be heard and fresh documents to be gathered.

The Criminal Court ordered that the cross-examination of go-between Melvin Theuma who is now state witness in the case after being granted presidential pardon should continue and be definitively concluded.

Furthermore, the recordings which are relevant to the case and were only discovered later, should be exhibited before the Magistrates’ Court.

The court will also receive a copy of Theuma’s presidential pardon as well as transcripts of evidence completed by three court-appointed experts.

Madam Justice Grima referred the case back to the court presided over by Magistrate Stafrace Zammit for all evidence to be presented within this time-window.
