Caroline Muscat wins Press Freedom Award for Independent Journlism 2019

Caroline Muscat was awarded the Press Freedom Award for Independent Journalism 2019 on Thursday in Berlin. Muscat is founder and editor of The Shift News.

Muscat established The Shift News, which researches corruption following the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. She dedicated the award to the murdered journalist and her family.

The nominations for this award were announced back in August. Contending for the award were also Amadou Vamoulkè of Cameroon, Pakistan’s oldest newspaper DAWN and the Nicaraguan independent weekly Confidential.

The Reporters Without Borders (RSF) held the 2019 Press Freedom Awards in Berlin. Nominees from 12 countries had been shortlisted for three international awards. The awards are The Prize for Courage, The Prize for Impact and The Prize for Independence.

The awards have been honouring courageous and independent journalists for their work since 1992.
