“Today our common home is on the brink of ruin, and we are faced with unprecedented challenges. There is no time to waste”.
Card. Peter K.A. Turkson, prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, said this in his opening remarks to the international conference “Saving our Common Home and the Future of Life on Earth” which which was held at the New Synod Hall in the Vatican on the third anniversary of the Encyclical Laudatosi’.
“We celebrate the third anniversary of Laudatosi’, a strategic document for the defence of the environment and our common home which contains a truly prophetic message”, the cardinal observed. “Our home was created by God, but if we do not protect this gift and do not change our production patters, our lifestyle will harm not only the environment, but particularly the most vulnerable”.
“Care, care, care” – this is the threefold invitation from the cardinal who insisted: “We need to promote sustainable development, as we will be reminded of by experts and witnesses over the next two days”.
“Our generation – the prefect said – has an enormous responsibility for our common home and the future of humanity. We have to act together; we have to create a global alliance for the future of our common home. We want to create a network of passionate people”.
