Bishop Emeritus Mgr Mario Grech who will be raised to the rank of cardinals, as announced by Pope Francis last month, has made his first visit as Cardinal-elect to Gozo’s Bishop Anton Teuma. During his visit at the Gozo Diocese, Dun Mario met with the staff and passed on to greet to College of Parish Priests who gathered for their monthly meeting at the Good Shepherd Pastoral Centre.

Cardinal-elect, Mario Grech also visited the Gozo Seminary. During his visit on Wednesday, it happened to be the 154th anniversary of the seminary which he described as his “Alma Mater.”

In his address to the Curia members and Chaplains, Cardinal-elect Mario Grech said that he is convinced that one of the main reasons why Pope Francis appointed him for his mission as he Secretary-General of the Synod of Bishops, was because of the invaluable pastoral experience he gained through them.

He described Gozo Bishop Anton Teuma as a person he can rely on and that he feels blessed to have him close. Bishop Teuma thanked Mons. Grech and said that in his new role he will continue to serve God and the Church.

This week, Mons. Grech has also visited President George Vella and Apostolic Nuncio Mons. Alessandro D’Errico.
