Cardinal Bertone and Farrugia discuss religion in the Constitution

Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone and speaker Anglu Farrugia spoke

Former Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone and speaker Anglu Farrugia spoke, among other things of the Catholic faith in Malta, with particular reference to the Catholic religion in the Constitution of Malta, and the religious education offered by Church schools. 

Cardinal Bertone was paying a courtesy call to Speaker Anġlu Farrugia early Friday afternoon.

During the courtesy visit, Speaker Farrugia referred to the excellent and cordial relations that exist between Malta and the Holy See. 

Cardinal Bertone recalled that there were about 140 churches in Malta dedicated to the Blessed Mary and that 40 per cent of Maltese students attend religious schools.

Cardinal Bertone was accompanied by Mgr Alessandro D’Errico, Apostolic Nuncio, Mgr Thomas Halim Habib, Counsellor at the Apostolic Nunciature, and Frank Zammit, Malta’s Ambassador to the Holy See.
