Cancer patients receive 30% of blood transfusions

More than 30% of the blood transfusions occur at the oncology and hematology centres. The National Blood Transfusion Service said that many people think that only operation patients require blood transfusion.

However, since cancer patients have increased, these patients require special treatment, sometimes for long periods of time and involving blood transfusions. When facing these challenges, the blood bank issues a call for blood donation, in order to have a good supply for all the patients.

Those in good health are asked to go to:

  • the Blood Donation Centre in Gwardamangia, open everyday between 8am-6pm
  • the mobile blood donation unit on Sunday 30th September near the primary school in Birżebbuġa between 8 30am-1pm
  • or at the Gozo Xewkija Berġa  on Sunday 30th September between 8am-1pm
