Cancer patients are set to receive a social security benefit once they would be receiving regular treatment. MInister Scicluna announced in the budget speech that eligible persons would be receiving the benefit from the first day of treatment. This means that persons who would have consumed all their leave and would be eating into their pay because of the treatment will not be losing out on this sickness benefit.
Scicluna also announced that as from January 2020, Fibromyalgia and ME will also be recognised as conditions for which state aid would be given for medical treatment. The cases will be asses by a medical board and the patients will undergo periodic medical review, said Minister Scicluna.
