Oh yes it’s ladies night, and the feeling’s right

    Temptasian Ladies Night

Anyone who knows me, also knows that I’m usually in bed by 9.00 pm on a ‘school night’ and that I’d probably have to be dragged out the house forcibly for an event starting after 8.

However, I did make an exception one Thursday a couple of weeks ago… and boy, am I glad I did!

I was invited to the Ladies’ Night extravaganza held weekly at the Temptasian restaurant at the AX The Palace hotel in Sliema and, being a lover of Asian cuisine, I decided to throw caution to the wind and accept.

    Daring, huh?

After sorting out childminding (thanks mum and dad!), the next step was for me to decide what to wear. I went for a black-on-black blouse and trousers combo with sparkly – you guessed it – black heels. As an aside, I reckon that about 95 percent of my wardrobe is, in fact, black although I did offset the ensemble with a pretty pink coat.

I arrived bang on time and had a lovely chat with some of the AX hotels employees present at the table. Fun fact – they told me that they had to include a disclaimer in the flyer they had prepared to read that ‘the offer is not applicable to men’ as a bunch of men had turned up during one of the first events and demanded to be served.

During the event I was invited to, we did have one male with us at the table, but he was officially invited – and ergo, an honorary lady for the night – so that was alright!

The evening kicked off with a vegetarian sharing basket made up of vegetable samosas, vegetable spring rolls, and sweet corn fritters (these were my favourite of the bunch), served with sweet chilli sauce and garlic soy sauce and a sushi platter, followed by Dal ka Shorba (also suitable for vegetarians) – lentil soup finished with coriander, spring onion and a dash of lime juice. I’m not a big fan of soup, but this was absolutely delicious.

The mains were also to die for, especially the Mo gu ji (stir fried chicken with shiitake, oyster and wood ear mushrooms in garlic, ginger, onions and soy) and the Indian butter prawns.

Unfortunately, I had to leave before I turned into a pumpkin (and also to relieve my childminders) before the arrival of the dessert – a heavenly-sounding lychee and mango sorbet.

Oh well, I guess it’s a good enough excuse as any to return very soon!

Ladies Night, which features a 4-course dinner at TemptAsian rooftop restaurant on the 9th floor of AX The Palace, happens every Thursday evening. Parking is complimentary, subject to availability. You may access the full menu here
