Bjorn Formosa, will undergo a risky operation in September that may leave him completely paralysed and unable to speak. Formosa is known for his energy in bringing awareness about ALS and also for founding ALS Malta. Formosa was diagnosed with ALS back in August 2015 and has since then never stopped raising awareness about the chronic terminal disease. In an interview he gave to the TV show Xarabank, Formosa said that his lung muscle had deteriorated sooner than expected. He said that this led to a situation where the oxygen mask would not suffice to help him breathe.
The operation carries with it a certain number of risks, which include complete paralysis and the possibility of not be able to speak. Formosa described such an eventuality as frightening and equated it to being trapped in his own body. He said however, that he will continue to live his life day by day.
