Archbishop Charles Scicluna renewed the standing invitation to the Pope to visit Malta.

Archbishop Scicluna was being interviewed by Fr Joe Borg on and was commenting on the relationship of the Maltese with migrants. In the context of the recent praise for the Maltese by Pope Francis, Mgr Scicluna said that the Pope knows that he has an open invitation to visit Malta “…and we hope that someday he accepts this invitation”. He added that, taking off from the recent references which Pope Francis had made to the great welcome the Maltese of classical times had given to the Apostle Paul, the Bishops of Malta had been inspired to renew and remind His Holiness of this invitation.

“When he [the Pope] speaks about Malta, he is also speaking about a people which is on the periphery” said Archbishop Scicluna, placing the Maltese in the context of behaviour towards immigrants. Archbishop Scicluna said that he will be meeting the Pope again this week.
