The Bishops have reminded the public on the importance of safeguarding public health, in a notice on Saturday.

Malta is experiencing an exponential increase in the number of active coronavirus cases. On Friday, 49 new cases were detected, representing a sharp increase from the already-high figures reported in recent days.

The Church highlighted the need for everyone to abide by the precautionary measures aimed to curb the spread of the coronavirus within the community.

Social distancing rules will be practiced in churches while church-goers will be scanned for fever prior to entering. The public was reminded to wear face masks or shields.

In the brief statement, the bishops of Malta and Gozo underlined that it is of utmost importance that the public abides by such measures aimed at protecting our life and health, as well as that of others.
