The Environment & Resources Authority has launched a public consultation process for a “Wellbeing First” vision, which is set to be the first major milestone in the development of a National Strategy for the Environment for 2050.
The vision recognises the need to look beyond economic growth as a measure for success; the environment is at the heart of a system that supports overall wellbeing. Environmental stability is deemed to be essential to maintain a good quality of life.
It nevertheless promotes continuous growth, though environmental and social considerations are to be given due consideration.
The draft vision was developed through a scenario-building exercise, through which multiple possible scenarios were explored to support decision-making processes by means of an analytical framework for finding suitable and robust policy options.
