Arnold Cassola calls for a magisterial inquiry into COVID-19

Tista' taqra bil- Malti.

Independent candidate Arnold Cassola is urging the government to appoint a magesterial inquiry into the COVID-19 developments. In a statement issued on Thursday Cassola said that the “COVID-19 crisis has been exasperated by the fact that Prime Minister Robert Abela and Tourism Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli privileged certain business categories over health concerns.”

Arnold Cassola argued that mass events were encouraged by Abela and Farrugia Portelli and therefore a magisterial inquiry should determine why this happened.

The former Alternattiva Demokratika chairperson continued to explain that the magisterial Inquiry should also investigate:

  • How many donations from business people were received in the last few years by individual candidates and their political parties
  • If any government sponsorships were promised to organizers of mass parties and mass activities
  • How much government compensation is to be given to the same, for failing to organise said mass activities

Arnold Cassola stated that the inquiry should also determine whether Prime Minister Abela spoke to medical professionals, asking them not to highlight “negative” information in their public appearances.
