Arnold Cassola asks Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate gifts Fenech gave to Muscat

The former Chairperson of Alternattiva Demokratika and Independent candidate for the European Parliament Elections, Arnold Cassola has asked the Permanent Commission to investigate reports on gifts that Yorgen Fenech donated to the Prime Minister of Malta Joseph Muscat.

Media reports indicated that Yorgen Fenech, who is accused as being the mastermind behind the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia gave Muscat a lluxurious BVLGARI watch and very fine wines. The watch was given in 2014 while the wines were given during a birthday party organised by Muscat earlier this year.

Cassola explained that Muscat was given the watch few days before the decision that the government took so that private property owned by Fenech is included in the high-rise scheme in Mrieħel. He also added that the wines were given to Muscat eight months after the Prime Minister was made aware that Fenech was a suspect in Caruana Galizia’s murder.

Cassola said that given the seriousness of the matter all the individuals who can shed light on the case should be made to witness on these gifts.
