Archbishop Charles Scicluna will be ordaining five new deacons on Sunday the 12th of May. The ordination will take place at St. John’s co-Cathedral in Valletta starting from 9am.
In a press release the Archdiocese of Malta is inviting everyone to join in the ordination celebration.
The soon to be deacons are Osmar Baldacchino from the parish of Saint Nicholas in Siġġiewi, David Borg from the parish of Our Lady of Graces in Żabbar, Cristopher Buġeja from the parish of Saint Paul in Rabat, Jonathan Debattista from the parish of Our Lady Assumption in Tarxien and Tony Pace from the parish of the Conversion of Saint Paul in Safi.
The Archdiocese explained that the new deacons will become a likeliness of Jesus who wanted to be a servant to others once they are ordained. It also explained that the duties of a deacon include a life dedicated to service people with love, assist the bishop and priests during the holy celebrations, administer christenings, assist in marriage ceremonies, and preach from the Gospel and lead funerals.
