A truck-load of historically valuable books were saved from perdition thanks to the timely photo snap of an honourable citizen, which caught the eye of Archbishop Scicluna who actioned for a rescue with culture Minister Owen Bonnici.
Sometime Tuesday afternoon, a passer-by bear Ta’ Ġieżu Church in Valletta, noticed a truck being loaded with what appeared to be, books. On closer inspection, they also turned out to be old and, seemingly, important. The passer-by took photos and, when a query was raised was given very short shrift.
Following media reports, Archbishop Charles Scicluna was notified and he quickly intervened, calling on the Minister for Culture to help retrieve the books.
On Twitter, Mgr Scicluna expressed his gratitude towards the Provincial for collaborating, as well as towards the Minister for Culture Owen Bonnici, who offered to store the books at a Heritage Malta site.
Nirringrazzja lill-Onor Ministru Owen Bonnici li qed jghin biex il-Kotba jinzammu minn Heritage Malta. Grazzi wkoll lill-Provincjal. Kotba antiki b’valur storiku mormija ġo trakk fil-Belt Valletta – TVM https://t.co/lmrQgPuGGY
