The Aquarius is expected to arrive at Boilers Wharf in Senglea at around 1.30pm.

The Armed Forces of Malta will assist with the disembarkation of the 141 immigrants.

According to a press release issued from the Office of the Prime Minister, all the entities concerned are at the ready to receive the migrants who will later be transferred to the Marsa Initial Reception Centre for eventual relocation to France, Germany, Luxembourg, Portugal and Spain.

In another press release, The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) lauded the actions taken by the Maltese Government towards assisting the Aquarius immigrants and the other EU states that have accepted to accommodate them.

However, the UNCHR is still worried that similar cases might prop up in the future unless there is a regional Mediterranean agreement on such matters in place.
