The new coronavirus, COVID-19 is a virus and therefore, antibiotics should not be used as a means of prevention or treatment. However, if one is hospitalized for COVID-19, patients may receive antibiotics because bacterial co-infection is possible.

This was explained by the World Health Organisation, WHO, which has been issuing information, on an international level, on the prevention against coronavirus and has also been addressing myths and misinformation on coronavirus.
