Members of the Romanian community in Malta organised an anti-corruption demonstration in Valletta on Saturday morning.

The demonstration was organised in solidarity with Romanians at home who are taking part in a major protest in Victoriei Square in Bucharest on Saturday, where thousands are expected to participate. The protest coincides with the one year anniversary since a major protest was held in Bucharest when the diaspora on holiday took to the street to protest against the ruling party and the corruption afflicting the country.

The protest in Malta consisted of a group of Maltese, Romanians and other foreigners living in Malta denouncing government corruption primarily in Romania. The group placed placards on the ground in front of the parliamentary building and interacted with passers-by. Among those who stopped to talk with the anti-corruption activists, were people hailing from Russia and Hong Kong who spoke about their situation back home.

The organiser behind the protest, Gabriela G., told that the activists were overwhelmed with the support and nice thoughts they have received both from the local community and tourists alike.
