ALPA providing financial support to laid-off pilots

Pilots retained in employment by Air Malta agreed to donate a substantial part of their salary to pilots recently laid off by the company, announced the pilot’s association, ALPA. It was also said that ALPA itself will also be providing financial assistance in order to ensure that its members are in receipt of income necessary for subsistence.

On the other hand, the association said that Air Malta has not provided ‘any justification for its failure’ to take the necessary measures in order for the pilots to receive wage supplements which would have ensured the retention of ALPA’S members in employment.

For this reason, the association has called on the company to engage in meaningful discussions in order to ensure that a long-lasting solution is found in the interests of both parties.
