Alfred Degiorgio is on hunger strike, according to the Government. Degiorgio is one of the men accused of murdering journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

A spokesperson for the Interior Ministry told that the Government was informed about Degiorgio’s hunger strike by the Corradino Correctional Facility (CCF). He has been on hunger strike for two-days and is being monitored by prison doctors.

The spokesperson for the Interior Ministry was not in a position to reveal the reason behind Degiorgio’s hunger strike.

According to MaltaToday, Degiorgio started refusing food after the prison director ordered that he and his brother George be locked in their cells for 25-hour stretches to avoid conflict with another inmate.
