Dr Frank Portelli stated that staff at the Malta International Airport are at serious risk of contracting COVID-19 as arrivals are being asked to first stop before immigration officials. This means that prior to screening passengers would have already made contact with the airport staff.
Posting on Facebook Dr Portelli said “L-iscreening wara li tgħaddi mill-immigration, tilħaq tinfetta l-istaff.”
Health officials have instructed airport staff to instruct passengers who have travelled to countries or areas affected by coronavirus to contact immigration officials or Airport Authorities.
This means that arrivals are to speak to airport staff prior to screening which came into effect as from last Monday.
The screening is known as thermal screening is a mode of screening for a large number of people passing through points of entry. Any persons who will be identified as having a fever will be assessed further.
