Air Malta suspends pilot over Facebook comments

An Air Malta pilot has been suspended over comments he made on social media.

In a short press release, Air Malta explained that the comments were about technical faults which developed in the company’s plane. The company’s administration said that an inquiry on the case has been opened. The pilot has been suspended until investigations are completed.

On Facebook, the pilot wrote that he found the fact that the Air Malta airplane followed ALPA directives amusing. He was referring to airplane 9H-AHS.

An Air Malta spokesperson told Newsbook.com.mt that the company employees should follow its regulations on online behaviour. However, the spokesperson said that he could not provide this newsroom with a copy of these regulations.

Last Wednesday an Air Malta flight which was meant to leave Paris at 3.10pm was cancelled as a number of pilots called in sick simultaneously.

On the 5th of September, a problem with the autopilot function developed during a flight to Malta. The spokesperson told Newsbook.com.mt that a technical fault developed during the flight KM467 from Paris to Malta.
