Labour MEP Miriam Dalli said that the agreement that was reached on the revamped Schengen Information System (SIS) can be used to protect and help vulnerable children.
Dalli explained how this tool may be used in the case of abducted or missing children in order to prevent and combat child trafficking and abduction.
Moreover, the agreement ensures that the fundamental rights on data protection will be respected.
The informal agreement was reached between the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council and the European Parliament.
The revamped SIS is also a useful tool in the fight against terrorism.
