AD laments a growing culture of hatred towards foreigners

Tista' taqra bil- Malti.

Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo has stated that Malta needs to take immediate steps against anyone spreading hatred. Cacopardo, speaking during a press conference held in Gżira, said that Malta now has a culture of hatred towards foreigners, particularly those of dark skin.

Cacopardo described the recent cold blooded murder of an immigrant from the Ivory Coast as a stain on the whole country. The AD Chairperson insisted that the murder was a direct result of the culture of hatred that was growing in the country. On the other hand, Cacopardo explained that the growing debate on the presence of an ever growing number of foreigners in Malta was justified since the these are having a direct impact on the quality of life, with an ever increasing demand on rental property with the resultant effect being the suffering of those who depend on this market.

Cacopardo explained how AD shall keep insisting on the need of every EU member state to pull its weight together with Malta in taking responsability for the immigration challenge. Cacopardo stressed that the EU needs to retain the value of solidarity with the vulnerable. Furthermore, he urged law enforcement authorities to take harsh steps against anyone spreading hatred.
