AD candidate for the Local Council Elections Samuel Muscat insisted that technology which could address noise pollution exists. This was highlighted at a news conference by Alternattiva Demokratika in Ħaż-Żebbuġ.
AD stated that the venue was specifically chosen adjacent to an entertainment which generates lots of noise during the night and disrupts residents. It was added that residents also have to put up with excessive noise generated by modified motorcycles and cars.
AD Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo explained that the problem is the lack of action by authorities who do not seem to be interested in enforcing their own regulations. Comprehensive legislation to tackle noise pollution is necessary, continued Cacopardo.
Cacopardo added that some time ago regulations prohibiting construction work before 7 am, or after 8 pm and on Sundays and holidays were introduced. “However these are not being enforced well enough since work is still being carried out outside the permitted time”, he concluded.
