Accused pleads not guilty to abuse of four girls in Armier

Tista' taqra bil- Malti.

A 63-year-old man has pled not guilty to sexually abusing 4 underage girls in Armier.

The court heard today how Mr Joseph Ebejer from Kirkop had allegedly abused the girls last December. All of the girls are cousins.

Ebejer’s defence lawyer Joseph Brincat, had requested the court prevent the publication of his defendant’s name in addition to the victims.

The prosecuting inspectors John Spiteri and Clayton Camilleri agreed to the latter part but protested the former, saying that it would not reveal the victim’s identities but may encourage others to come forward.

The prosecutors also told the court that the accused had previously been charged for crimes of a sexual nature.

The presiding Magistrate Astrid Grima upheld the prosecuting officer’s request as well as preventing the naming of the victims.

Ebejer was remanded in custody with a request for bail rejected.

The lawyers Arthur Azzopardi and Rene Darmanin appeared for the victims.
