According to the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) the situation where a decorative column for the feast of St Helen in Birkirkara is blocking the access to the pavement near an ATM is unacceptable.
It stated that “as stipulated in the Maltese laws accessibility cannot be suspended for a week because of a papier-mâché angel.”
In a press release the CRPD stated that it has been informed that the access ramp near the ATM on Sanctuary Street in Birkirkara is currently temporarily blocked as a papier-mâché angel on a column has been installed right in front of it.
The CRPD said they have reported this incident to the Police and have asked for an immediate solution.
Police sources informed Newsbook.com.mt that no reports on the issue were submitted on Monday or Tuesday so far.
Newsbook.com.mt also tried to contact the person responsible for the feast street decorations but had no success.
