A dinghy full of children; “they escaped from hell”

Mediterranea Saving Humans announced that at 8.35am this morning, the vessel ‘Mare Jonio’ rescued about a 100 people including 26 women, of which at least 8 pregnant , 22 children of less than 10 years and at least 6 others minors.

The vessel is now awaiting instructions from the Italian Maritime Coordination Centre, which it informed while the rescue was in progress.

The NGO took to Facebook where it explained that it found their rubber boat using a radar. It was overcrowded, drifting and with a tubular already deflated.

These people are all believed to be safe on board. However, there are cases of hypothermia and some have significant signs of mistreatment and torture suffered in Libya, noted the NGO.

Mediterranea Saving Humans stated that “they all escaped from hell”.
