The first event of ‘A day with Pope Saint John Paul II’ which took place on Saturday 10th August 2019 at the Nativity of Our Lady Basilica in Xagħra, Gozo was well attended by a number of parish children and parents who were welcomed by His Lordship Mgr Carmel Zammit Bishop of Gibraltar who celebrated the Holy Eucharist.
Bishop Zammit talked about the similarity of Gibraltar and Gozo. He also spook about the love Pope John Paul II had towards Our Lady due to the fact that the Pope’s childhood was not a happy one. Mgr Zammit also wished a happy feast to everyone.
Present for this event, which is an initiative of the JP2 Foundation in full collaboration with the Xagħra Parish Church, were Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, MP Dr Kevin Cutajar, Speaker Emeritus Anton Tabone and Xagħra Councillor Antony Attard. At the end of the celebration Mgr Zammit gave a copy of the illustrated book ‘Karol, it-tifel li sar Papa’ by Andrew Borg to every child there.
The second event of ‘A day with Pope Saint John Paul II’ will take place on Sunday 18th August 2019 at Our Lady of Fair Help and Saint Dominic Basilica in Valletta. The day will be marked by a Mass to be celebrated by His Lordship Mgr Giovanni Cefai, newly-elected Bishop in a Diocese in Peru. The Mass, which will start at 10.00 am, will be animated by soprano Roberta Hili accompanied on the organ by Mro Antoine Mercieca and flutist Noemi Portelli. The general public is invited to attend.
