A community festival in Valletta, a brand-new music-theatre production and more

This month, the Valletta Cultural Agency (VCA) is to showcase a number of events around the island.

Belt il-Beltin is a community festival commemorating Valletta’s Foundation Day. For this festival, the VCA is working closely with several Valletta groups and communities including those who organise Valletta’s feasts, band clubs, parishes and sport clubs, which have all come together to create a series of activities spread out on two days. Entry to this festival is free. This event was created by Dr Victor Jacono, Edward Bonello & VCA and is produced by VCA in collaboration with Valletta Local Council. It will take place in St George’s Square and around Valletta on the 28th March at 12.00 and 5.00 pm and the 29th March at 10.00 am and 2.00 pm.

TNAX is an outdoor, photographic exhibition consisting of 12 Maltese iconic images that have left a mark on the local photographic landscape, one for each month of the year. March’s photo features Victoria Gate, by Ritty Tacsum. It will take place in St John Street, opposite St John’s Co-Cathedral. This project is curated by Joseph P. Smith, and created and produced by the Valletta Cultural Agency in collaboration with the Valletta Local Council.

Mahler’s Sixth Classical Music Criticism Workshops will take place on the 7th March at the Malta Society of Arts, Valletta. An Introduction to Classical Music Criticism workshop as well as a Masterclass in the same field, by acclaimed classical music critic Dott. Umberto Nicoletti Altimari from Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra takes on the next artistic challenge with Mahler’s Sixth Symphony, conducted by the internationally renowned Lawrence Renes on the 14th March at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta . This event is created and produced by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in collaboration with the Valletta Cultural Agency.

InnovAiR 2020 will take place on the 26th March in Valletta and the 27th to the 29th March at the MRO Technology Expo, MFCC, Ta’ Qali. The VCA’s first artist-resident for 2020 will publicly share their work in Valletta and will also collaborate with the Valletta Design Cluster as part of their annual display at the MRO Technology Expo.

Experience the island’s historic gem, Teatru Manoel, like you’ve never before with this brand-new music-theatre production composed and directed by The New Victorians. Público will take place on the 27th, 28th and 29th March at Teatru Manoel, Valletta. This event is commissioned by Toi Toi – Teatru Manoel Education Programme, with Teatru Manoel Youth Theatre, and an international cast of Actor-Musicians, in collaboration with the VCA.
