9,300 different structures for Maltese farming

Eurostat explained that in Malta there are currently 9,300 structures which are used for farming and the area used for arable land is 11,200 acres.

According to Eurostat, almost all structures use less than five acres and the total area used for production amounted to 78.5%.

Eurostat also explained that 34% of farmers are between 55 and 64-years-old, 31.8% are over 65-years-old and only 7.1% who are less than 40-years-old.
