The health authorities have confirmed the death of a 91-year-old woman who had tested positive for Covid-19, in what is the 17th death linked to the pandemic in Malta.
In a statement, the Health Ministry said that the woman had tested positive for Covid-19 on 26 August, and was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital on 6 September. She passed away at the hospital late last night.
The ministry added that the woman had other health conditions.
As is routine, the ministry took the opportunity to encourage the public to continue following the recommendations of the health authorities – including frequent hand-washing, social distancing and the use of face masks – as it expressed its condolences to the woman’s relatives.
35 new cases of Covid-19 were reported on Thursday, with the number of active cases reaching 601.
